Have a globe of a semi-transparent material with a set of projectors inside. You can then bring up different map layers projected from the interior to be shown on the surface. This way you can use political, geological, topographical, transportation (roads/railways) historical (locations of ancient cities), environmental, or even have ocean currents animated on the surface. You'd still be able to spin the globe and have the image rotate as well as merge multiple map projections at once.
This would also make it cheaper to have very large globes as the interior hardware is mostly the same. Which would be cool to have a 1 meter globe for more detail.

App and case for pebble watch that recreates a LEO view of Earth as time passes.
This is just a very complicated timepiece.
It is a mixed app that interacts with a case that mounts on the Pebble watch or something similar. The case clips on and has a clear slightly curved surface that is mounted to the face of the watch so it looks like a slight bubble. The app uses your phone's GPS to center an image of the Earth's surface on the watch, but scaled out to give a larger image that covers hundreds/thousands of miles across. This is centered on your location or to any point on Earth. The case has a tiny LED light that transmits a yellowish light on the surface of the bubble to tell you where the sun is during the day, this changes it's track above the horizon depending on the time of year. At night it switches to a whiter light that tracks the moon across your bubble. The bubble is to ensure a 3 dimensional depth of view. If you look horizontally at your watch you can see the sun/moon above the surface. The screen of the watch may also change it's appearance depending on day or night and show either a daytime sat image of the surface or a nighttime image that shows the lights of the cities from sat views. This isn't real time, though it maybe possible in the future with more sats. These images can be collected from google or whomever is your map software.
This app would only update your location through a forced send rather than automatically in order to save battery power. It would also go dark unless you hit a button to save on power. For the actual time, an LED in the case would project it on the North side of the bubble out of the way of the sun.
This idea was inspired by the Orbital Bracelet from the book, "Player of Games".

A way to remove all political blogs from a search.
If there was a way to only source newpapers and actual journalists rather than having your search cluttered with repeated blogs from either side.

Some improvements for the Japanese Aerotrain.
So the Japanese are reviving the aerotrain concept of years past with the use of ground effect. Here's the video:
It's a pretty cool idea and looks like it would be much cheaper than a comparative mag lev train system, but I think it can be improved. And as a complete idiot non-engineer, I am sure that my improvements would be amazing!
Firstly, I'm looking at the power source. It appears as though they are planning to use an onboard power generation system. This is a negative simply because it increases the costs and weight involved in the individual aircraft. I would change to an integrated power transmission system in the track. Using a system designed for highways, it would work even better for a ground effect craft as it would operate at the most efficient speed for power transmission. The transmitter side can also be spread out a little further to generate a larger power effect over the area of the wings which would contain the power "receiver". The integration of the power supply into the track allows for a greater variety of power production methods. Anything from track mounted PVs to a remote nuclear power station which would lower the carbon and pollution footprint of this high speed rail.
Now with the electric power being sent on board, you might think that i will use electric motors to provide propulsion. And you would be wrong!
Yes, my great and mighty brain has decided that the propulsion side needs a different tech: Rim Drive Propellers! Currently in use on marine vessels, there has been research into using them on aircraft because of their increased efficiency and lowered disk loading effect for it's size. Current models are powered by electric motors, which makes sense since the weight is not as much of an issue for an already heavy marine craft. But this is an aircraft, why go with something so heavy?
I won't.
My plan is to integrate much lighter air bearings into the ducting and then provide power to the propeller disk by compressed air motors. This system is much lighter than using an electromagnetic rim drive which lowers the gyroscopic forces on the propulsion assembly. In addition, the compressed air becomes a self cooling system which can also be used for environmental controls inside the cabin. The compressor would be mounted in the center of the craft to increase stability while using a Rotary-screw compressor for reduced noise and minimizing the storage system requirements.
And now I get really out of my depth by altering the shape of the wing assembly. Instead of the horizontal and vertical airfoils, I would use something similar to the Beechcraft V-tail, but for the main wing, Although this tail was first sold as a way to reduce the wetted surface, it ended up being equal. Which for my design means that I have a larger area to collect the electricity produced by the "railway", this will ensure the system is as efficient as possible in power transfer. This wing shape also creates an easier track construction and provides a smoother flight, as shown by some of these videos by one of the designers.
Finally, I would create the train stations to use a compressed air surface for slow speed maneuvering of the craft while they come to a complete stop. By using a single wheel in the stern and a compressed air system similar to an air hockey table for the wings, you can ensure that the craft can be stopped at a specific loading point. Then no harm would come to the craft while it sits at the station for loading and unloading. In addition the power requirements would be less than is used by mag-lev trains that require power to "hover". This would also allow for a shorter take off distance as the craft will already be "airborne" when the thrusters are switched on.
This ground effect would be an excellent idea for high speed "rail" in the US. Cheap construction to cover the larger distances involved while still being cleaner and faster than our current systems.

Self contained projection laptop.
This is a personal laptop that is about the size of a raspberry PI board. On the top is mounted a pico sized projector- warning autostart video. It is covered by an expanding "screen" that is held to form by springy wires. It pops up like one of those popup tents , with a screen (11"-17") depending on which is connected. The projector basically aims almost straight up and adjusts the image to appear normal.
The keyboard is a projection keyboardfor use on a normal desk/flat surface. Another option is for when you are typing on your lap and away from a solid desk, is to have a bluetooth connection to a pair of glasses that displays the keyboard. It would appear like the keyboard is floating in air but the base computer would pick up where your fingers are. This would be bad for touch typers but usable overall.
The idea is to minimize the construction/raw materials needed to produce a netbook-sized processor computer that can run without a cooling fan. It would be about 3"W x 4"L x 2"D (cm 7.6 Wide x 10.15 Long x 5 Deep).
edit: I did come up with a better way of getting the floating keyboard in the glasses. Use a small projector that aims upwards towards a pair of glasses, this way when you look down at the device an image of a keyboard will be formed on your glasses when you are at the proper angle.

A small bluetooth connected, wall-mounted projector that display the calendar from your computer on the wall.
So I'm thinking that instead of having a big dry erase calendar on the wall of the office, you have a little wall-mounted box that projects the image of your calendar from the information on the computer. It would also allow you to use the included stylus for adding/removing appointments synced to the computer through the wall projection. You could also change views from daily to year at a glance styles.
edit: An interesting way of doing this would be to use a short throw projector and then integrated with something similar to the laser projection keyboard. Perhaps something like a kinect that can track your x,y coordinates on the wall with a pressure sensitive stylus that will activate when you write something.
Or there are actually projectors with interactive stylus built in, from Epson... so my idea is already done. ha!

Create a private military force to protect world heritage sites and historical artifacts.
Between the burning of books by ISIS, blowing up of statues by the Taliban, or the destruction of temples by Thai artillery bombardment; we are losing our history in this world. It is time to create a private military force that both protects historical sites from damage or looting and goes into unstable regions to retrieve historical artifacts from libraries and museums. These objects would then be taken to a secure location until the areas stabilize and the threat has been removed.
An independent agency like the UN would be best for controlling access but I doubt the UN Security Council would allow such activity, which is why it should go to a private group. Perhaps we could start a kickstarter to get it going and then have donations to ensure it's longevity.

A documentary that shows how much good has been performed by the government.
I would start with the clip of Reagan that really solidified the hate for the government, "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
Then I would like to see it destroyed by pointing to all of the regulations and programs that have improved our lives. Also include the studies that have shown equal efficiencies between the public and private sectors. There would be so much to show that could be used to battle this crazed pro-business lean of the voters that is removing all of the protections that have been put in place for very good reasons. Sure it could show the negatives as well, but then it would be open to showing the destruction wrought by the greed of the market.
I'd like it to focus on the positives ,though, because I don't feel that those are talked about enough in the American society.

IT jumpsuit that looks like a dress shirt and tie.
This would be an outfit that would look like a white or blue shirt with a pair of black pants. In actuality, It is all made of the same fabric and sewn together as a coverall with a single zipper. The "tie" would be sewn flat on one side in order to work as a flap to cover the zipper of the coveralls, and it would fold under the collar at the top of the neck and snap closed. It would have belt loops so that you can add a belt to further cover the sewn together aspect.
In order to remove the usually baggy backside, you'd have spandex in the material to give it more give. The reason for the difference from most coveralls is that in a heavier work environment the spandex mix just wouldn't hold up to the abuse, but in an office environment it works fine.
This could actually be for anyone who works in an office and is sick of the their shirt becoming untucked or the tie flopping in the way. It's also much easier to put on for those late night service calls that require you to show up in a business attire.

Kite propelled, atmospheric energy powered airship.
Build an airship into the shape of a winged keel from a sailboat with a gas lift ability of a hundred tons so that it can have an auto-stabilized living space on board.
On the top there will be a ringed track that holds the control lines to a large kite . The movements of the kite will be controlled through hydraulic rams and wheels along the rail. This kite will provide the propulsion and the aileron-type control surfaces while the winged keel provides directional rudder/elevator controls. Although this system will require some power to operate the hydraulic controls, it will not require the same amount as standard motor systems. This energy can then be collected from the atmosphere due to the enormous size of the airship and it's conductive carbon fiber frame, which will allow for lighter energy collection than other current renewable sources, the ability to collect energy 24 hours a day, and capture greater amounts of energy as it gains altitude. This last sentence is a complete lie and I enjoy constructing these to make my idea seem better. If someone could actually demonstrate the math to determine how much actual wattage can be retrieved from the atmo at 2000 ft above sea level from an airship that is approx 200'span x 20'thickness x 50'chord, I would be grateful.
This design will not allow 360 degree freedom of movement, but it will allow for similar directional control as a sailboat. The vehicle will not land in the normal sense, but anchor over the water with an platform that lowers to the sea level.
